Accessible Outdoors.
Supporting outdoor education, health, and community.
Our Purpose
To offer educational programming in both outdoor arts and recreational activities to all audiences. Provide a safe learning environment for area youth and adults through single and series classes in drawing, painting and sculpture, and guiding educational hikes, scouting, and camping programming.
Our Mission
As a multidisciplinary nonprofit, an outdoor arts and recreation facility, that is recognized as an anchor in the western Southern Tier of New York, it is the mission of the Outdoor Arts & Recreation Society to be a host in a vibrant destination and assist in expanding, inspiring, and delivering a lifetime of arts and outdoor recreation education and experiences.
This mission is only realized when we provide audiences of all ages with opportunities to play and create through engagement, connect with our natural environment and each other, explore new art forms and outdoor activities, dream through expression, exploration, and have experiences that inspire, transform, and foster a life-long love of our world.

OARS Becomes an Extreme Motus Affiliate: Expanding Access for All
Outdoor Arts & Recreation (OARS) is proud to announce our new partnership as an official affiliate of Extreme Motus—a leader in all-terrain mobility solutions designed to open the outdoors to everyone.
At OARS, access to nature, creativity, and recreation isn’t a privilege—it’s a right. This partnership marks an important step forward in ensuring that individuals of all abilities can fully experience everything our land, trails, and programs have to offer.
Our 2026 Fundraising Mission
This year, all OARS fundraising efforts will be focused on a single, powerful goal:
To purchase an all-terrain mobility device that will be available for free public use on-site.
This specialized equipment will allow individuals with mobility challenges to navigate trails, fields, and natural landscapes that may otherwise be inaccessible. Whether visiting for a program, a quiet walk, or a community event, guests will have the opportunity to explore OARS more fully and independently.
Why This Matters
Access to outdoor spaces is deeply connected to physical health, mental well-being, and community belonging. Unfortunately, many natural environments remain difficult or impossible to navigate for those with mobility limitations.
By introducing an all-terrain model through our partnership with Extreme Motus, OARS aims to:
Remove barriers to outdoor participation
Promote inclusive recreation and learning
Support families and individuals seeking shared outdoor experiences
Set a standard for accessibility in rural and nature-based programming
How You Can Help
Every donation made to OARS this year directly supports the acquisition of this life-changing equipment.
You can be part of this effort by:
Donating to our accessibility fund
Participating in OARS events and fundraisers
Sharing our mission with your community
Together, we can ensure that OARS is a place where everyone belongs, everyone explores, and everyone thrives.
